Helmut’s Tree Service

I started with tree work early in life!

Here I am with my twin brother clearing our block of land,

under the strict supervision of our sister 🙂

We worked on little trees…

…and big ones too.

But it was really hard work at that age, using hand tools with only tiny muscle power, and the tools being bigger than me! So I waited until I was a bit older with stronger muscles, and I could afford to buy a chainsaw, before I seriously got into the tree cutting business:

Helmut Imberger’s Tree and Garden Service

I am a professional tree cutter and climber (arborist), operating mainly in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne and nearby areas, occasionally doing jobs further afield. Most of my work has been in the private sector but I have also contracted to  the Army, Telecom, Human Services, and Parks Victoria, and have  worked in Fiji and California.

In the late 70’s, over a few weekends, I cut down a group of pine trees that I used to climb as a boy in my parents backyard, using only a bow saw for the branches and a crosscut saw (like the one in the first photo above) for the trunks. Soon after, a neighbour asked me to cut down his pine tree. That’s how I got started; cutting down trees for friends on weekends. Two years later I resigned from my public service job, studied books on tree surgery, and started my own full-time tree and garden service. Five years later I attended a certificate course in arboriculture at Burnley Horticultural College.

In addition to tree work I also do landscaping- mainly sleeper retaining walls, timber features, and rock work.
